Experience

Career in Cryospheric Science began in 2006 based on: Remote Sensing measurements of Karakoram Himalayan surging glacier distributions; Understanding St. Elias Icefield, Southern Yukon glacier and climatological dynamics as part of B.Sc undergraduate thesis; Quantified glacier changes on Bylot Island, Nunavut Canada since 1975;  M.Sc thesis on the spatial variability of snow accumulation patterns of the Belcher Glacier, Devon Island, Nunavut Canada as part of the IPY GLACIODYN Project. Field experience and living in remote locations over the last 3 years including the Canadian High Arctic – Belcher  Glacier, Devon Island for 5 weeks (May 2008); Southern Yukon Kaskawulsh Glacier for 2 weeks (July 2006) and Kluane Lake Research Base, Kluane Yukon (5 weeks July – August 2006). Extensive experience with field measurements of glacier snow accumulation and ice dynamics: operation of ground penetrating radar, snowpack sampling, avalanche probe, gamma spectrometry, neutron probe measurements, borehole drilling, surface velocity measurements with differential GPS. Knowledge in working with Geomatics data, examples – Landsat (sensors – TM, MSS, ETM+), ASTER, SPOT Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), MODIS, AVHRR, GRACE satellite imagery, as well as aerial photography (DISP, NAPL). Authored academic articles in peer reviewed refereed journals, in addition to publications in non-refereed books and reports. Teaching and evaluating geomatics / GIS, and Physical Geography classes at the undergraduate level. Languages: English, French. With Canatec since early 2010.
