Experience

Initiated career in the petroleum industry, in 1974, working on: offshore structures and operations design for East Coast; Arctic field engineering for production sites; environmental management for PetroCanada’s LNG tanker project; PhD thesis on Calgary Arctic offshore petroleum industry as an innovation cluster. After finishing PhD in 1982, undertook: consulting for developing countries and international organizations relating to management of research, technology and innovation in natural resource sectors; research management, strategic management and teaching in business schools; project management for research funding agencies. Lived 11 years outside Canada, in USA, Africa and Latin America. Set up 2 businesses: 1 in Calgary to produce decision-support software to valuate risky technology & project investments;  1 in Chile, an ecotourism resort offering training for corporate creativity. Author of 3 books, 23 academic publications, 1 business case, 1 business magazine column, 52 consulting reports. Languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Swedish. With Canatec since early 2008.
