Experience

Began career with the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute AARI in St. Petersburg in 1977, in the Oceanography Department, focusing on ice data acquisition, data processing and ice drift forecasting. Extensive field experience with Ice Drift Station North Pole 24 and other marine areas of the Russian arctic offshore. In 1991, took over management of AARI’s Ice Navigation Research Laboratory. Emigrated to Canada in 1997, undertaking projects with petroleum companies like Marathon, Agip KCO, Exxon, Elvary Neftegaz, BP and Sakhalin Energy in ice monitoring, design and research to support their exploration, production and transportation activities. By 2007, had undertaken 24 arctic ship, offshore, icebreaker, drift station and research expeditions in the Arctic and other marine-ice zones. Currently an Associate with Canatec, and president of ABIC Service Ltd. a Calgary firm which supplies Modis satellite ice imagery to offshore operators in Russia. Author of more than 40 research articles and 50 professional reports and manuals. Mother tongue Russian; fluent in English.
