Our Customers
Canatec provides services and products to the Arctic offshore petroleum and Polar shipping industries. We sell analytical services and data to government regulatory and policy agencies responsible for these industrial sectors. In addition to government agencies, various Universities and Public Laboratories involved with Polar Research activities purchase our software and instruments.
Benefits to Customers
We help clients work in ice-covered regions with more safety, efficiency and less risk to the environment by detecting, monitoring and forecasting ice hazards. Our ice forecasts and monitoring services extend operating seasons and minimize downtime due to ice incursions. Our understanding and monitoring of ice hazards minimizes the risk of encountering situations that could cause spills or blowouts, and knowing where oil pooled under ice, how it drifts in ice and disperses, aids in planning and executing cleanups.
The Company
Canatec is a Canadian company based in Calgary, first formed in 1988 and reincorporated in 2001. The Partners and Senior Associates all have about 3 decades of experience in sea ice. Canatec has 7 full time staff and 3 Senior Associates who work almost exclusively for the company.
Deep Professional Experience
Canatec has worked with a large number of offshore petroleum companies involved in the Beaufort, Chukchi, Caspian, Sakhalin and Fram Strait operations, in addition to many seismic, drilling and shipping companies in these regions for the last 30 years. Canatec supplied ice forecasting and satellite imagery for the Arctic Coring North Pole scientific drilling expedition in 2004. We are familiar with latest ISO design methods for Arctic offshore structures. From our decades of experience in this industry, we know and have worked with most of the individuals with complementary skills in ice detection, analysis, operations, instrumentation, software and management; these connections enable us to rapidly set up teams of people to carry out larger or specialized sea ice related projects anywhere in the world.

We regularly use PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers on subcontract. Our teams always include senior professionals working with juniors, who have at least 1 recent postgraduate degree.
