Canatec makes specialized ice instruments and software to support academic researchers and government regulators. Our main instrument product is an ice drift beacon, which was designed specifically for use in extremely cold environments to last up to 2 years and resist polar bear attacks through camouflage on the ice. This beacon can be airdropped or hand placed.
The ice drift beacon has also been transformed into a polar tracking device for following the movement of field parties and equipment in remote, extremely cold areas.
Canatec also has expertise in the building of rapidly-deployed meteorological and oceanographic stations for remote polar regions, which function under extreme cold conditions.
We have been selling our historical ice conditions software ICE06 for more than 15 years, all over the world. This is a database of all public information on sea ice, updated annually, which supports very rapid analysis of ice conditions, operating seasons and ship transits.
Our ice drift forecasting software is used in-house only, to support projects requiring regular monitoring of ice conditions around the field operations site. This has been field tested with consistent success in Alaska, Canada, NE Greenland, Russia and Kazakhstan.
