  • Battery lifespan at standard 2 hour transmission interval is 3 weeks.
  • Batteries are easy to replace by the user in the field.
  • Small enough that it can be carried under a coat.

Track Data and Display 

Users have password-protected access to their own trackers on Canatec’s website. Positions and tracks are displayed on dynamic web maps. If flagged tracking mode is activated, display pointer flashes red and data are highlighted in red.

Optional Features & Services 

  • User can preset transmission intervals from own computer before sending tracker into field.
  • Users can use their own maps, charts or aerial photos on the web display as the background for the tracks.
  • Users can accumulate tracking information on web display and annotate them with text and photo- graphic information.
  • Full data set of tracks can be downloaded as text file.
  • Text or data can be transmitted from field computer to email or SMS messages in packets of 280 bytes.

The trackers are designed and manufactured by Canatec, a company with decades of personnel experience in sea ice studies and operations in remote polar environments. Canatec’s state of the art instruments have been tested in cold chambers, mountain tops, in the Arctic and Antarctica. Recent full-scale 3-beacon drift program on ice in the Beaufort Sea. They are based upon Canatec’s proven design of beacons used to track Arctic ice floes for up to 2 years.
