Arctic Sea Ice Coverage and Drift

For more than three decades, Canatec engineers, physicists and geographers have been studying sea ice in the Arctic and other ice covered oceans and seas.

While a great deal of attention has been placed on studying the reduction of Arctic sea ice coverage and thickness, these data are of less utility for planning and operating industrial activity, whereas the characteristics of ice in particular locations and the unusual extreme conditions are  the higher concern.

We are expert in the analysis, detection and tracking of sea ice, and assessing the hazard it poses to marine industrial operations. This information is critical for operations design, route planning and setting structural design criteria. In some cases, sea ice can be used as an engineering material to support or protect structures; in these cases, we can monitor the ice for its performance against design specifications.
