Canatec Polar Tracker 

Canatec makes a personal tracking beacon for field workers, scientific personnel, adventurers, military, hunters and trappers. This is an essential piece of personnel safety gear for people who travel in remote and extremely cold polar environments for long periods of time.

Features

With this device, base camp operators can track exact position of all field personnel on computer screens. It has instantaneous response - the beacon position signal appears on website track in less than 15 seconds. Users can send a pre-coded signal for alerting base camp to special situations, using an switch which is safety locked. Of critical importance to users in the field, they can see when signals are received by base - not just know that the instrument is on. In addition, it has been designed so that it can be operated with heavy mittens in bright daylight or complete darkness. No training or set up time is required by the field users – they just open the cover and switch it on.

• Iridium satellite transmission of GPS signals. Iridium is the only bi-directional system that works in polar regions. Iridium offers the most reliable transmissions everywhere else in the world.
• GPS position accuracy 2.5 m.
• Beacon tested down to -40 °C.  Records data if temperatures go lower, transmits when warms up.
• Dimensions 16 x 9.3 x 7 cm (6.31" x 3.68" x 2.75"); Weight 500 g (17.6 ounces), in waterproof case.
• Transmits under 50 cm dry snow cover, 5 cm water saturated snow cover.
• Non-hazardous, lithium-iron "Energizer®" batteries, non-rechargeable. 
• Transmission rate can be precoded by Canatec from 20 minute to 8 hour intervals and switched off by user at night or when in camp to conserve power. Battery lifespan at standard 2 hour transmission interval is 3 weeks.

Track Data and Display

Customers have password-protected access to their own trackers on Canatec’s website. Positions and tracks are displayed on dynamic web maps.

If alert signal is activated, display pointer flashes red and data are highlighted in red.

Optional Features & Services

• Customer can preset transmission intervals from his own computer before sending beacon into field.
• Customers may request Canatec mount their own maps, charts or aerial photos on the web display as the background for the tracks.
• Customers can accumulate tracking information on web display and annotate them with text and photographic information.
• Full data set of tracks can be downloaded as text file.
• Text or data can be transmitted from field computer to email or SMS messages in packets of 280 bytes.
